Returning to the horror roots of the original series after the sixth entry, Resident Evil 7 is dripping with terrifying ambiance.

Regardless, it’s a hell of a horror game. Resident Evil 7 isn’t really a Resident Evil game, switching the perspective to first-person and focusing on a much smaller story. Platforms: PS4, Xbox One, Windows, Nintendo Switch (cloud) Tyrant’s character model is pure nightmare fuel, too. However, Resident Evil 2’s use of the RE engine brings with it advancements in smoke simulation and lighting, even furthering the creepiness of the original release. Of course, 20 years of graphics iterations will lead to a better-looking game. That’s not to mention the graphical improvements. The change in perspective brings with it an entirely new feel, restricting the player’s vision in ways the original title doesn’t. It’s an over-the-shoulder game in the vein of Resident Evil 4, though with less of a focus on action than that game and the titles that follow. Built from the ground up as a re-imagining of the original game, the Resident Evil 2 remake perfectly combines the cramped atmosphere of the 1998 release with modern sensibilities. The Resident Evil 2 remake follows the same narrative as the 1998 release, but that’s about the only similarity between the two.

Resident Evil 4 is a game teetering on the edge, perfecting the formula Capcom had been crafting for nearly a decade when the original game was released. The tighter focus on action worked wonders back in 2005, though Capcom took it a little too far, as demonstrated by Resident Evil 5 and 6. With more powerful hardware in tow, Resident Evil 4 switched the fixed camera angle of the first three games to an over-the-shoulder perspective. Although Resident Evil 3 showed a massive leap forward in terms of graphics, it pushed the limits of the original PlayStation in 1999. No matter what console or a tricked-out gaming PC you have, there’s a way to play Resident Evil 4.Īnd for good reason. Originally released on the GameCube in 2005, Resident Evil 4 has since been ported to countless other platforms. It’s tough to articulate how much of an impact Resident Evil 4 has had on gaming. Platforms: GameCube, PS2, Windows, Wii, PS3, Xbox 360, PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch Keep in mind that we’ll only consider games with “ Resident Evil” in the title, so we won’t include spinoff titles like Operation Raccoon City or Umbrella Chronicles. Fitbit Versa 3Įveryone might have their own ideas about the “best” or “worst” Resident Evil games, but we’ve done our best to rank the games in the series for you. I've also looked at the input.ini file and I can't make heads or tails out of it. This is the last time I ever buy a Capcom game for PC, they have no respect for PC users and treat us like degenerate console babies. This is a PC port and the end user should have the freedom to rebind the buttons as they see fit. How did Capcom mess this up? Why even take the time to program a customizable interface for controller bindings but fundamentally switch up how the aiming works. But the aiming is always bound to your right stick, go figure. You can bind the movement to one stick and the camera to the other. And once again this is hard coded into the game. The aiming is on the right stick NOT the left stick as it should be.

This works fine except for one major issue. Well let's move past this and use a different controller to play then the game does allow custom mapping for non-xbox controllers. Why are these controls hard coded into the game and not rebindable? Anyone playing this game knows you're going to open your case at least 3-5 times for every time you look at the map. Every type has your "status" bound to the START button and the "map" bound to the (Y) button (the opposite of the original PC port). I have two major gripes with the controls in this game that are real oversights and lazy programming.įor users playing on an xbox controller you are allowed to pick from three different “types”.
